We are honoured to be supplying you organic lamb from Wharerata Farm in Pirinoa, South Wairarapa.

THE FARM

This beautiful farm in South Wairarapa has been certified organic since 1990.

 

For almost 100 years, the Atkinson's have been stewards of the land, leaving the land healthier than when they found it. The sheep, beef and deer farm is managed by Sophie Atkinson, who is a fourth-generation farmer.

 

Not only is farming in Sophie's blood it is also in her heart - she is an incredibly passionate farmer.  In 2021, Wharerata Farm won the NZDFA Next Generation Award, recognising their excellence in environmental and social performance. 

THE LAMBS

The lambs roam on beautiful pastures enjoying a diversity of plant species in their diet - up to 14 different species. The farm is one of the few certified organic sheep farms in the North Island. 

THE MEAT 

This meat pack is for half of a lamb, which is about 9-10kg of meat. 

The cuts in the pack will be:

1 x shoulder

1 x 6 loin chops 

1 x 8 rib pack

1 x lamb shanks

1 x leg roast 

2 x neck chops

Each lamb will weigh a slightly different amount, so you will only be charged for the weight of your lamb. 

The estimated total price for the meat packs in $275, which is $27.50 per kg for local, grass feed, organic lamb - which is a really good deal!

 

There is a $100 deposit when booking this lamb and then the rest will be payable the week before delivery.

For this meat to have the organic certification sticker on it, it needs to be butchered in a butchery with organic certification. However, there is no organic butchery close to the Wairarapa. So to avoid unnecessary food miles, the meat will be butchered locally at Homegrown Butchery in Masterton. This means it won't have the organic certification label on the meat, but the sheep are 100% organic and the butchering process in Masterton won't affected this. 

THE DETAILS 

This pre-sale will run until the 27th December, then once we know numbers, sheep will be booked in for processing in mid January (date to be confirmed). We will then deliver the frozen meat packs to your doors in Wellington, Hutt Valley, Porirua and the Wairarapa for no extra delivery cost. 

 

There is a $100 deposit when booking this lamb and then the rest will be payable the week before delivery, based on the weight of the lamb you will receive.

As the meat will be delivered chilled or frozen it is only available for delivery (not for pick up from our pick up points). You will also either need to either be home to accept the delivery or leave a suitable chilly bin(s) on your doorstep. We will be in contact the week of delivery to confirm delivery times with you.
